Keppel Dive & Water Sports launches All-Abilities Vessel for the Keppel Islands

In a major step forward for inclusive tourism on the Southern Great Barrier Reef, Keppel Dive & Water Sports has announced the launch of their new, purpose-built all-abilities tourism vesselKeppel Adventure — designed to significantly improve access to the pristine Keppel Islands for visitors of all abilities.

Supported by the Queensland Government's Accessible Tourism Elevate Fund through the Department of Tourism and Sport, Keppel Adventure represents a first for Great Keppel Island and its surrounds.

The vessel features innovative design elements, including construction from partially recycled HDPE materials and a specialised focus on wheelchair and mobility-challenged guests.

“This is more than just a boat — it’s a new chapter for accessible tourism on the Capricorn Coast,” said Ollie Heales, owner of Keppel Dive & Water Sports and Funtastic Cruises.

“We’ve always believed the Keppel Islands should be enjoyed by everyone, and now, with Keppel Adventure, they truly can be.”

“The vessel’s walk-on/walk-off design, paired with a rear hydraulic lift, means easier, safer access for mobility-impaired travellers — something that hasn’t existed here until now.”

The introduction of Keppel Adventure positions Keppel Dive & Water Sports as a leader in accessible marine experiences on the Southern Great Barrier Reef.

The vessel will operate a suite of inclusive experiences, from snorkelling tours and island exploration to beach drop-offs and camping transfers.

“Our accessible design approach has been about more than compliance — it’s about genuinely improving the experience for all our guests,” Ollie added.

“Whether you're a wheelchair user, have mobility challenges, or are travelling with family members or carers, Keppel Adventure makes a real island adventure possible.”

Capricorn Enterprise CEO Mary Carroll welcomed the launch, highlighting the significant boost it delivers for the region's appeal as an inclusive tourism destination.

“Accessibility is an essential part of the future for tourism, and we’re proud to see local operators like Keppel Dive & Water Sports leading the way,” Mary said.

“This aligns perfectly with our region's commitment to being an ECO Certified Destination and ensuring experiences are accessible, inclusive, and sustainable.”

The vessel will commence service in early July 2025, with bookings for snorkelling adventures, island tours, and tailored beach drop-offs already available.

“This is a win for the community, the tourism industry, and most importantly, for travellers with accessibility needs and their families,” Ollie said.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone aboard and showcasing the magic of the Keppel Islands — no barriers, no limitations.”
